Most common questions and answers:

Q: What are the differences between the OEM DS and the standard DS?

A:  The OEM DS design has several improvements over the standard DS:

    • HydroTech ultra-rugged 8 C cell housing machined from one solid piece, no gluing. Reduce the unit's buoyancy, reduce the risk of leaks and damage, and extend your depth deployment capabilities.
    • If the batteries leak, the acid will interact with the metal springs and create a high pressure inside the battery housing  which causes the battery acid to be injected into the main housing and results in a total loss of the unit in the case of the standard DS. However, that will not happened with the OEM DS because it has a 500 psi seal between the battery compartment and the main housing.
    • All internal connectors in the OEM DS are highly reinforced to minimize vibration affects.
    • The circuit boards inside the OEM DS are all reinforced with a proprietary process to maximize ruggedness of the unit and the ability to withstand more field abuse.
    • The housing is fully assembled with no gluing and double o-ring seal for maximum ruggednes.

Q: What is the warranty on the OEM MS?

A:  HydroTech provides two years warranty parts and labor.

Q: Can I use the Hydras 3 LT to communicate with the OEM DS?

A: Yes.

Q: Can I use the Hydras 3L Pocket software with the OEM DS?

A: Yes.

Q: Can I use my existing Hydrolab® cables to connect to the OEM DS?

A:  Yes. The standard OEM DS comes with the standard Hydrolab® 6 pin bulkhead connector.

Q: I do not like the standard Hydrolab® 6 pin bulkhead connector, can the OEM DS be fitted with a YSI® type connector?

A: Yes. The "OEM DS" can be fitted with an optional YSI® type bulkhead connector with recessed pins for maximum ruggedness and it will work with your existing YSI® cables.

Q: Does the OEM DS have internal memory?

A: Yes, it has enough internal memory for 120,000 measurements.

Q: Does the OEM LDO support the LDO sensor?

A: Yes.

Q: Does the OEM DS require internal batteries when used with the SVR4A®?

A:  No, the OEM DS does not require an internal battery pack when used with the SVR4® display. However, for extended use we highly recommend having the internal 8AA battery option, especially when the unit is equipped with optical sensors.

Q: Does the OEM DS require internal batteries when used with the Archer PDA?

A: Yes, the OEM DS does require an internal battery pack when used with the Archer PDA.

Q: Does the OEM DS require internal batteries when used with the computer ?

A:  When used with a computer, the OEM DS will require external power or an internal battery pack.

Q: When connected to a Datalogger, can the OEM DS still log data internally ?

A: Yes, the OEM DS can perform all the following tasks simultaneously:

    • Communicate with a PC or Handheld unit via RS232 or RS422
    • Communicate to a datalogger via SDI-12 or RS232
    • Log data to its internal memory up to 4 files at a time, even with overlapping dates

Q: What sensors configuration can I have on the OEM DS?

A: The OEM DS unit comes standard with temperature and conductivity sensors, and you can add any combination of the following sensors:

    • pH
    • ORP (Redox)
    • Disolved Oxygen (Clark cell)
    • Dissolved Oxygen ( Optical sensor LDO)
